Welcome to the next blog in our series about common eye conditions. This month we are talking about cataracts, which is a very common age-related eye condition. Cataracts can occur in one eye or in both eyes, and causes your vision to appear blurred, dim or misty. If left untreated it can lead to blindness.
Welcome to the second instalment of our feature about the small business shopping scene in Market Harborough. In part one we put some of our favourite local shops under the spotlight. Being the fabulous town that it is for small independents, we had a rather long list of amazing businesses we wanted to include. Which is why we decided to split the feature into two parts.
So without further ado, let’s begin…
This month signals the national campaign “road safety week”. This initiative was founded and is promoted yearly by Brake, a national road safety and sustainable transport charity. This year’s campaign, which we are supporting, runs from the 18th – 24th November and is entitled “step up for safe streets”.
Brake want people to learn about and promote solutions that allow everyone to travel around in safe and healthy ways. Safe journeys are achievable with a good road transport network, so human error doesn’t result in death or serious injury. It’s a shocking statistic, but someone is killed or seriously injured on a British road every twenty minutes. We’ll let that sink in for a moment.
Ever since we opened the doors to Respectacle Company in 2016, we’ve very much enjoyed being part of Market Harborough’s independent retailers’ scene. We love this beautiful market town so much, and feel very lucky that so many fabulous small businesses and shops call it home too.
So we’ve decided to shine the spotlight on small businesses in Market Harborough, which will include some of our favourite cafes, restaurants and shops. It’s our guide to shopping local. Read on to find out which fellow small businesses are slaying it in the independent retail game. Read more
We are all born equal but at the same time all of us are equally unique. And that is especially true when it comes to our eyes. In fact, they are so unique in terms of colour, shape and size that they are used to scan for identification like our fingerprints. No two eyes are the same, which is why we all experience difference vision.
When you visit your optician for an eye test, you may well wonder what your glasses prescription means. It can be a little confusing, so in our latest blog we will be talking about optical prescriptions to help you understand what all the numbers on your prescription actually mean.
But first, we wanted to start by briefly explaining the difference between the visual conditions emmetropia and ametropia.
When we were in the early stages of opening our Market Harborough opticians practise, we knew that Theo was one of the eyewear brands we simply had to have in our collection. We wanted to bring exciting eyewear to the lovely people of Market Harborough. And since 2016 we’ve made it our mission to work with brands that are fresh, fun and a little bit different compared to the mainstream mass produced frames. Theo certainly fits the bill. Read more
In the run up to National Eye Health Week (23-29 September) we thought we’d talk a little bit about eye examinations and what is involved during a comprehensive eye check up. In this blog we’ll explain in more detail what our customers will experience during their consultation.
An eye examination at Respectacle Company will normally last about 30 to 45 minutes, and during this time all of the assessments and tests are carried out by the same experienced and fully qualified optometrist. We feel this is important for continuity, as well as the ability to give a full analysis and explanation of the optometrist’s findings to our customers. Read more
Welcome to our latest ‘In the Frame’ interview. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, it’s where we pose a series of questions to one of our customers regarding their eyewear experience with Respectacle Company. It’s also a great opportunity to shine the spotlight onto a local business or individual.
This month we’re talking to Kate Anderson, who runs her own copywriting and social media marketing company. Kate trained as a journalist and, prior to going freelance, worked as a content creator for a local digital media agency. Read more
Last month we enjoyed a fabulous team day out on the Grand Union Canal, hosted by our partners Seiko Vision. It was a team bonding day with a difference, which involved taking a day boat from the Union Wharf in Market Harborough, cruising along the river to Foxton Locks, approximately six miles away.
