  • Whereabouts is your optical store located?

    We are situated in Manor Walk, a lovely car free shopping precinct just off Coventry Road in Market Harborough, which is home to a variety of independent shops and a café.

  • You sell some fabulous eyewear. How much do your frames cost?

    Here at Respectacle Company, we offer a whole range of frames suitable for all budgets. Whether it’s a budget reading spectacle or an emergency spare pair right through to a handmade, individually designed frame, we feel that we have something suitable to offer all our customers’ pockets.

  • How often should I have my eyes tested?

    You should have a full eye examination every two years or as directed by your optometrist.

  • How long does an eye test take?

    An eye examination normally takes approximately 30-40 minutes.

  • Am I eligible for a free eye test?

    Some people are exempt from paying for their eye examinations and are covered under the NHS scheme. It includes:

    Children under the age of 16 years old.
    Full-time students under the age of 19 years old.
    People over the age of 60 years old.
    People who are over the age of 40 and have a history of glaucoma within the family.
    People who are diabetic.
    Some government benefits also qualify for the NHS funded eye examination

  • What does sphere, cylinder and axis mean on my prescription?

    A prescription is made up of sphere and cylinder corrections with an axis given in many prescriptions to determine the position of the cylinder correction. Some people are prescribed prisms, reading additions, and binocular additions. This is a very large subject but our fully qualified and experienced optometrist will always fully explain your prescription to you during your consultation.

  • I’ve heard a lot about OCT scans. What exactly is an OCT scan?

    Optical Coherence Tomography is an advanced detailed scan that images a cross-section through the layers of the eye.

  • How much does an OCT scan cost?

    An OCT scan costs £35 or £65 together with a private eye examination.

  • How much do contact lenses cost?

    There are many different types of contact lenses currently on the market and we offer a variety of lenses depending on prescription, material, and type of wear. If you give us a call on 01858 433 577 we can discuss the different options in more detail.

  • What’s the difference between single vision and multifocal contact lenses?

    A single vision lens gives the wearer the same prescription contact lens throughout the lenses. However, as our prescription changes and we get older, many people will need a bit more help with close work and reading. Multifocal contact lenses not only give the wearer their distance prescription but there is an additional prescription in the reading area of the lenses to allow us to see clearly at all distances.

  • How do I avoid getting scratches on my glasses?

    All of our spectacle lenses come complete with a hard coating to help protect the lenses from scratching. And our Seiko lenses are offered with a protective coating that is guaranteed for 12 months – any scratches within the first 12 months and we will exchange the lenses.

    But it’s also important to care for your eyewear as best you can by following a few tips:
    Always keep your glasses in their case when you’re not wearing them.
    Avoid putting them lens face down.
    Only use a microfibre cloth to clean them.
    Make sure any grit or rough particles are removed with water or with a lens cleaning spray before you clean them with a cloth.

  • What measures have you introduced to help minimise the spread of COVID-19?

    Since the lockdown in March 2020 due to COVID-19, we have been working very closely with our governing bodies. We follow government guidelines to ensure that both our customers and staff are fully protected. We have put many new procedures in place per these guidelines.

    These include:

    Screening customers on arrival.
    Putting hand sanitising stations in place.
    Wearing appropriate PPE as advised by our governing bodies.
    Reducing the number of consultations we conduct each day, to ensure we have time to clean and sanitise fully between each patient.
    Operating a full appointment system to control the number of customers in the store at any one time.
    Adhering to social distancing guidelines.

  • What are your opening hours?

    Our usual opening hours are:

    Monday – closed
    Tuesday – 9.00 – 5.00
    Wednesday – 10.30 – 5.00
    Thursday – 9.00 – 5.00
    Friday – closed
    Saturday – 9.00 – 4.00

    However, we do ask customers to check our website and social media before visiting us as we do have to change our opening times on occasions.

  • I don’t live locally but you stock a frame I’ve fallen in love with. Are you able to sell me just the frame and post it to me?

    We like to be able to help our customers in person, so we can advise about style, fit, and suitable lenses for the individual’s prescription and requirements. But we do and have sent frames to customers around the UK and even in Europe.

  • I’ve never had an eye test before. What does it involve?

    At Respectacle Company our comprehensive eye examinations consist of a series of tests and examinations to check your vision and whether you need a correction with either spectacles or contact lenses. We also assess the overall health of your eyes.

  • How much does an eye test cost?

    Respectacle Company’s full and comprehensive eye consultation costs £35 unless you are covered by the NHS.

  • How do I make an appointment for an eye test?

    There are several ways to book an eye examination with Respectacle Company. You can call us on 01858 433577, send an email to hello@respectaclecompany.co.uk, message us through our Facebook page or complete the booking form on our website.

  • What’s the difference between trifocal, bifocal and varifocal lenses?

    As we age many of our customers find they need a bit more help to read as well as a distance prescription. Bifocal lenses have two separate areas within the lenses; the upper part for distance vision and a lower part for reading. You’re able to see the different area by a line which separates the two areas. Trifocal lenses are like a bifocal but have an additional read in the middle of the lenses for intermediate work.

    Both bifocals and trifocals have been around for many years and now the majority of people choose to wear a progressive lens or varifocal. Cosmetically they look better and the technology is much more advanced. These types of lenses allow the wearer to experience clear vision at all distances.

  • What are the benefits of an OCT scan?

    The OCT scan can detect very small abnormalities or changes within the eyes structure, which can show at a very early stage many eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, macular holes, glaucoma, and vitreous detachments. Many of these conditions when detected at an early stage can be successfully treated or managed.

  • I’m thinking of trying contact lenses. Can I get a free trial?

    We do offer free contact lens trials. A new customer needs to book a full eye examination and contact lens trial so we can fully assess their prescription and suitability for contact lenses. The initial cost of this is £20 for the contact lenses assessment and depending on the patient’s eligibility for an eye examination, the examination is either funded by the NHS or requires a private consultation which costs £35. Subsequent appointments for care and handling of contact lenses and assessing fit and comfort are free.

  • How much is a contact lens check-up?

    A contact lens aftercare check-up is required annually and costs £20 or is included in the cost of regular replacement schemes.

  • How do I keep my glasses clean?

    All of our spectacles and sunglasses come complete with a cleaning cloth. These microfibre cloths are suitable for everyday cleaning. However, should your lenses become greasy or have a build-up of dust or dirt you can use a lens cleaning spray, which we can also supply. We are also able to offer a really cool little accessory called the ‘Eyeshaker’ which is a spectacle cleaning system designed to give your eyewear a deep clean.

  • What are the benefits of using an independent opticians compared to one of the well known high street chains?

    At Respectacle Company we pride ourselves on the quality of service that we offer all of our customers.
