Having a comprehensive eye examination not only checks your vision and the health of your eyes but the examination can also tell us a lot about your overall health. At Respectacle Company we take the health and wellbeing of our customers very seriously. That’s why we have invested in Optical Coherence Tomography imaging technology, also known as an OCT scan. Our hospital-grade equipment takes an advanced and detailed scan of the layers of your eyes. This in-depth examination produces a comprehensive 3D scan of your eye which is similar to an ultrasound scan.
Our state-of-the-art 3D camera uses the latest light technology to capture both a detailed digital image and a three-dimension cross-section scan through the different layers of your eyes. This means we are now able to see deep into the structures of your eyes in very fine detail. Both the image and cross-section scan is created at the same time, making the scan a quick, simple, and painless procedure that gives instant results. The advanced software will automatically detect subtle changes to the retina at each examination, reporting any abnormalities at a very early stage.
The OCT scan allows for instant and early diagnosis of many common ocular conditions, many of which can often be detected even before the patient is aware of any issues or symptoms. Once detected, the condition can be treated or managed quickly and effectively to help prevent the condition from progressing further and possibly causing visual problems in the future. All of the procedures we offer at Respectacle Company are carried out by our experienced optometrist who will record, analyse and present his findings to you during the same consultation.
Optical Coherence Tomography allows us to delve deeper through the different layers that make up the structure of our eyes, detecting many potentially serious conditions at a very early stage. Many of these common conditions, if left undetected, can lead to future issues and even sight loss for many people. Our OCT scans can detect such conditions as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) which is one of the leading causes of blindness in the UK, diabetes which affects over four million people in the UK, and glaucoma which can damage the optic nerve, as well as vitreous detachments and macular holes.
Our hospital-grade OCT scan gives a very extensive health assessment of your eyes, enhancing our comprehensive eye examination. Using state-of-the-art 3D technology, these 128 high-resolution scans give us the opportunity to intervene at an early stage. Some of these early interventions can halt any further changes and potentially avoid sight loss. Our fully qualified and experienced optometrist has undergone extensive training in OCT analysis to ensure that we offer a full and comprehensive diagnosis of each consultation.
At Respectacle Company we believe regular OCT scans are an essential ongoing health record of the condition of your eyes. These records are a great benchmark to work from when assessing changes or abnormalities within your eyes. Many common eye conditions are hereditary, can be triggered through the long-term use of some medications or through lifestyle. But if diagnosed at an early stage through an OCT scan enables the condition to be successfully managed or prevented. There is an additional charge of £35 for an OCT scan, but it’s a small charge to help protect our eyesight.
